For my engaged archaeology project, I created a website dedicated to teaching people about Michigan archaeology. It includes common questions about archaeology, an about me section, links to websites to read about Michigan archeology as well as archeology in general, a guide of places to visit to learn about archaeology in Michigan, a forum to talk about Michigan archaeology, as well as a blog where I wrote about places I’ve visited as well as interesting articles I have read about Michigan archaeology. I wrote the website in a non-formal manner and made simple and easy to navigate so that it is easier to understand for everyone, and made sure that the places to visit were suitable for people of all ages to enjoy and learn about the history and culture of past Michigan people. I feel that everyone should be allowed to participate in and learn about archaeology because it is important to know about how people lived in the past to help us live better today. I added a forum so that people can talk about Michigan archaeology and teach others as well as me about what they know and maybe visit some of the sites I talked about and share their experiences.
While making the website, I found many places in Michigan that I would like to visit in the future. I even visited one of the places that I found and wrote a blog post about my experience, The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology at the University of Michigan. I had a lot of fun making my website, and learned a lot about archaeology in Michigan that I never knew before. I hope that people who are interested in Michigan archeology see my website and find it informative and are able to learn about the heritage of this state as well as about archaeology in general.This website shows people how important archaeology is as well as how interesting it can be to learn about.
